ATA Releases Driver Compensation Study Print E-mail

Still “a number of challenges”

American Trucking Associations News Release

The American Trucking Associations released their ATA Driver Compensation Study Friday, July 8, updating the previous 2007-2008 report. Containing 2010 and 2011 data, the new report is the first look at the state of the trucking labor market since the end of the Great Recession.

"The trucking industry continues to face a number of challenges," ATA President and CEO Bill Graves said. "Retaining top-quality drivers as the economy recovers as our industry is called upon to haul more freight is of paramount importance. This study provides fleets critical regional and national data they need in today's market."

The study took in data from 155 motor carriers of all types and sizes and includes:

  • National/regional employee driver salaries
  • Employee driver salaries by carrier type (flatbed, refrigerated, tank truck, and more);
  • Employee driver benefits, including bonuses, insurance, retirement and vacation;
  • Employee driver recruitment, training, and retention practices
  • Owner/operator employment and compensation structure
  • Technician employment, salaries and benefits.
