Least traffic fatalities recorded since 1950
Blog4Truckers Editorial Staff
We here at Blog4Truckers would like to salute our readers, especially the professional drivers, who calmly and regularly guide their busses, trucks, tankers, road equipment and heavy-haul through hazards that would turn anyone else’s hair white in an hour. Thanks for a great job, guys and gals, day and day out, no matter what the weather or road conditions.
This Sunday, take a minute to remind your friends and families that doing your job on the road is not just a matter of sitting and steering – and they need to be proactive drivers too. It’s the tenth anniversary of "Put the Brakes on Fatalities" Day, so take the kids to the park, or call your brother-in-law from the road and just talk. Send a postcard to your grade-school teacher, who showed you that first map of the United States. Pour yourself a soda or another cup of coffee, and take a few minutes to realize there are people out here who do appreciate what you go through, just to get groceries on the shelves, socks on the kids’ feet, or a new antibiotic to the vet treating that sickly 4-H calf.
There’s room on the roads for all of us, but we need to be aware of each other and watch out for the dumb cluck that doesn’t understand the heavy responsibility that goes with a driver’s license. Don’t drink and drive, don’t drug and drive, don’t text and drive, and get a hands-free system like the pros do if you have to call someone while you’re behind the wheel. There. That’s our preaching to the four-wheelers.
Happy anniversary, truckers. We’re raising our coffee cups to you.
